Motorcycle Saddlebag Packing

Motorcycle trips require transporting varies items along with you. However, knowing what to pack and how to pack the items is a struggle most motorcyclists constantly deal with. Something to always consider is your safety and the security of your personal items. In order to do this, you need to understand the differences between packing a car and packing a motorcycle. Consider the variations in things like limited packing space, weight distribution, and the time it takes to access your items.

The following simple guidelines are intended for motorcyclists who ride alone or with a passenger; however, simple alteration will be need. Some motorcycles may require saddlebags or other luggage. Guidelines:
1. Make a list of items you plan on transporting and where each will be positioned on the motorcycle.
2. Depending on your motorcycle, you may need to invest in motorcycle luggage such as: a good set of saddlebags, a tank bag, a roll bag, a tail pack, bungee cords and/or a backpack.
3. If you plan on transporting clothes, tightly roll them up as small as possible.
4. Distribute the weight on the left and right side of your motorcycle evenly. If possible, utilize a scale to weigh the bags.
5. Each bike comes with a limited weight for the back of the bike; make sure you do not exceed the limit of your bike by referring to the owner’s manual.
6. Place important necessary items at locations that are easily accessible.
7. When everything is packed, place rain covers over your belongings in case of rain. You will become agitated if it begins to rain and are forced to stop to unpack. (Tip: in order to avoid damage to valuable items place them in zip plastic bags.)
8. Make sure all your necessities are on board.
